Deuteronomy 31:8

"The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged."

The double promise, goes before and will be with, addresses both the unknown future and the present moment. The commands against fear and discouragement rest on the unbreakable commitment that God will neither leave nor forsake. When depression whispers abandonment, this verse answers with the settled reality of God's permanent companionship.
