Psalm 34:18

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."

When sadness settles so heavily that the heart feels shattered, this verse declares God's nearness rather than distance. He does not stand at a remove from those whose spirits are crushed; He draws close. This is not a promise that the pain vanishes instantly, but an assurance that the sufferer is not abandoned in the darkest emotional places. Depression often isolates; this truth counters that isolation with the presence of the living God.
