Sadness Grief and Discouragement
Scripture and encouragement for sadness, grief, and discouragement.
Selected Sub-Tab
Psalm 42:5
"Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God."
The psalmist speaks honestly to his own soul about its despair. He does not deny the downcast feeling or pretend it is not real. Instead he redirects the soul toward hope in God and anticipates future praise. This models a healthy spiritual response to depression: acknowledge the darkness, then deliberately turn the mind and will toward the character and faithfulness of God even when feelings lag behind.
