"Then he said to them, 'Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.'"

Jesus directly confronts the assumption that life's meaning or security is measured by what one owns. Greed in any form, whether grasping for more or clinging tightly in fear, is to be resisted. True life is found in relationship with God, not in the size of one's reserves.
