Genesis 18:19
"For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just, so that the Lord will bring about for Abraham what he has promised him."
God's purpose for Abraham included directing his household in the way of the Lord. Parental leadership in righteousness and justice is part of fulfilling God's larger promises. This elevates the daily work of raising children to a place of covenant significance, giving weight and hope to the task even when it is hard.
