Proverbs 23:13-14

"Do not withhold discipline from a child; if you punish them with the rod, they will not die. Punish them with the rod and save them from death."

The language is strong and realistic about the protective purpose of discipline. Correction is not optional when a child's path leads toward destruction. In seasons of intense conflict or a child's dangerous choices, this verse strengthens parental resolve to act for the child's ultimate good rather than choosing short-term peace.
